Operational Level 4 - Efficiency (twelve-month average, 95% goal)

Efficiency is a unique measure, borne from years of learning how best-in-class stores sustain a high level of inventory accuracy. These stores share a similar trait: they spend less time counting and fixing inventory quantity-on-hands but devote more time to variance research and root accuracy processes (like Mango's accuracy cadence). They are simply deploying their limited accuracy resources in a more efficient way. That is, stores can either devote accuracy labor to shallow and widespread countin' and fixin' or devote it to deeper processes which lead to sustainable accuracy. No store we know has the payroll budget to do both.
  • High Efficiency - the right amount of counting in the right places, deep variance research, root accuracy processes.
  • Low Efficiency - widespread counting, limited variance research, many trivial variances; no root accuracy procedures.
-Or-
  • High Efficiency - a relentless focus on finding and fixing leaks.
  • Low Efficiency - a relentless focus on bailing out the boat.
Bottom line: counting for accuracy purposes only makes sense if your store has verified that its personnel and processes are free of leaks. If your store already has tight accuracy processes then abundant counting is usually not necessary.
